Becoming a Mentor
If you have a heart for abused kids and want to invest in their lives, Royal Family KIDS can give you the training, resources and help for a successful experience with a child who needs you!
Mentors Make A Child's Camp Experience
Last All Year Long!
You can help a foster child who attended Royal Families KIDS Camp in one of our pilot project areas build on their positive memories. Here is what we offer to mentors:
- Specialized Training - EVERY mentor receives 12-15 hours of camp counselor training on child abuse and safety issues PLUS a specialized 1 day mentoring workshop on how to build ongoing relationships with children of abuse.
- Flexible Scheduling - Plan your four hours together to fit your own schedule. Some of you will want a weekly hour with your foster child. Others will prefer to meet for a longer time twice a month.
- Boundaries - Mentors make a commitment to serve one academic year with the option of choosing whether to mentor again the following year.
- Support - Each Club has a Mentoring Director to consult with you about your relationship with your matched child and will meet with you and other mentors in regular Cohort Round Tables to share questions. In addition, the Club has support volunteers to plan group activities for the mentors and mentees.
- Resources - Workbooks, games and materials are available to Royal Family KIDS Clubs and Mentors.
